Creating Future PathwaysSeveral years ago the NSW Government introduced into all Government secondary schools the School to Work Program. The portfolio-based program provides extensive resources for the implementation, curriculum support, and delivery of Career Education within the context of the normal curriculum with the view to securing better quality career development outcomes for students. School to Work:Creating Future Pathways is for all students aged 14 to 19 years,enroled in NSW government schools. It helps young people develop employment related skills that can be applied to a range of jobs and careers. It also encourages new partnerships and strengthens existing ones between schools,TAFE, parents, mentors, employers and businesses, community organisations and industry. Employers consider that employment related skills are just as important as job-specific or technical skills.Qualifications and technical skills alone are often not enough to help you land the job you want.Austarlian employers have identified a set of 'Employability Skills' that they look for when both hiring candidates and promoting employees. There are 9 employment related skills valued by employers. Self Management Initiative and Enterprise Learning Communication Teamwork Planning and organising Problem solving Technology Cross-cultural understanding If you want to boost your chances of standing out from the crowd when applying for a job, you need to seriously consider engaging in activities that help you develop these 'Employability Skills'. |
