About Engineering Studies at MGHS

Sam Convery UNISS Scholarship Holder

Engineering Studies at Maitland Grossmann High School has a fine tradition of outstanding academic success. Higher School Certificate results in the subject are always amongst the highest in the school and the district. Many of our Engineering Students have gone on to study Engineering at TAFE and University levels. Students such as Sam Convery featured in the picture to the right. Sam is currently studying Civil Engineering at Newcastle University and has gained a prestigious UNISS scholarship with Abigroup. In 2009 Sam's younger brother Tom Convery was also successful in gaining a UNISS scholarship. A truly talented family!

Two other students in the 2008 cohort, Matthew Osborne and Micheal Tonon have been successful in achieving Engineering Scholarships with Xstrata worth in excess of $9000.00 per year. Matthew is also currently a Minerals Council Bursary holder and has been since 2007. Tom Fairweather a current HSC student is also a Minerals Council Bursary holder.

The Industrial Arts department has expanded its Engineering Programs in 2008 to include a Year 9 Industrial Technology Engineering class. In 2009 we have two Year 10 and two Year 9 Industrial Technology Engineering classes and have expanded the Technology options in Years 7 & 8 to include engineering topics.

Many of our Junior Engineering programs are underpinned by the use of CATIA 3D graphics software and the F1inSchools initiative.
