125 Year of Mathematics!
This year MGHS is celebrating 125 years of education. As part of the Open Day Activities on Saturday 12th September (10 am - 2 pm) the Mathematics Faculty is compiling a video of past students memories of maths lessons. We would like as many videos as possible from across as many generations as possible.
If you, a relative, a neighbour or a friend attended MGHS in the last 125 years, get someone to video you as you answer the questions below and send or deliver file to the Mathematics Faculty no later than mid-August so that we can put together the presentation. After it has been screened at the Open Day we will place a copy on the school website and in the school archives for future use. To help with the overall quality of the final video could you please use a camera or video camera (rather than a mobile phone) and film in a high resolution. Please write down the name of the person (or people) you interview including any maiden names and the years that the person attended the school. Video Questions! - Who was your favourite Maths teacher or the most memorable Maths teacher and a story about why this is so.
- What was your favourite topic in Maths?
- What topic did you like the least?
- What was the most useful topic you learnt in Maths that you have found you have used since leaving school?
- What’s the most memorable piece of advice or something a Maths teacher said that sticks in your memory? (It could be a saying to remember a piece of Maths or advice in general).
- What did Maths classes look like when you were at school? (Number of students in the class, type of furniture, how lessons were structured…)
- What “tools” did you use in your lessons that you think students would not use today?
- What’s your most memorable moment or story from a Maths lesson?
Thank you to everyone who helps us out with this project. Zoe Cox Head Teacher Mathematics
