$20 for a years worth of Maths Tutoring!!!Our school has decided to purchase a school License for the online Mathematics “tutoring” and game package called Mathletics again in 2009. Mathletics is a web-based learning program which integrates home and school learning via the internet and which is syllabus based, from Kindergarten to Year 12. Put simply what this means is that 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, your child will have access to a package via the internet that allows them to either improve their mental arithmetic skills in a game situation OR to practise topic by topic the course they are currently studying in maths. If they need help there is a step by step help section which guides students through the appropriate method to solve the question. If a student begins to get questions wrong, the software detects this and presents easier questions until these are mastered. In essence the package is like a 24 hour Maths tutor. The breakdown of the total cost involved to purchase the year long license is $20 per child per year. Current Maths tutoring rates would see parents paying at least $30-$40 per hour. Parents are also able to sign up for a weekly email that allows them to monitor their child’s progress. I don’t as a general rule make recommendations to parents about particular commercial tutoring packages and options. This package however is very good and can be used as a classroom teaching and learning tool as well as a home tutoring option. In addition, if we purchase it as a school it is very cheap - $20 per student! Parents who purchase the license individually do so for $99.
Students pay the $20 to the Front Office and they will be issued with a username and password in early 2009 and can begin to use the package both at school and at home. Zoe Cox Head Teacher Mathematics |
