Organisation of classes
Year 9 science classes are organised into two streams.
A-stream classes are graded (9SA1 to 9SA4).
B-stream classes are mixed ability.
Student assessment
Students in year 9 are assessed by examinations held at the end of each term. These examinations assess work completed during the term. Each examination is divided into four sections that assess:
- Knowledge and understanding
- Practical skills and first-hand investigations
- Problem-solving skills
- Scientific communication
Reports
Student progress is reported twice per year:
- Half-yearly report uses results from the Term 4 examination (2006) and Term 1 examination
- Yearly report uses results from the Term 2 and Term 3 examinations
Promotions and demotions
Students will be moved classes at the end of the year based on their results from the four term examinations.
