Organisation of classes

Year 9 science classes are organised into two streams.

B-stream classes are mixed ability.

Student assessment

Students in year 9 are assessed by examinations held at the end of each term. These examinations assess work completed during the term. Each examination is divided into four sections that assess:
  • Knowledge and understanding
  • Practical skills and first-hand investigations
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Scientific communication

Reports

Student progress is reported twice per year:
  • Half-yearly report uses results from the Term 4 examination (2006) and Term 1 examination
  • Yearly report uses results from the Term 2 and Term 3 examinations

Promotions and demotions

Students will be moved classes at the end of the year based on their results from the four term examinations.
