Early Childhood Studies Early Childhood Studies is an elective in Years 9 and 10. Both the practical and theoretical components are an integral part of this course. Students have the opportunity to interact with young children from the local community and experience the demands of a newborn through caring for a simulated baby. Throughout the course students build an awareness of the needs of children and their responsibilities as carers.
Topics covered include:· Pregnancy · Infancy· Feeding, clothing and transport· Toddler development· First aid and resuscitation· Preschool· Problems in child development· Childcare and nutrition· Ready for school· Caring for older childrenThis course provides the foundation for senior courses such as Community and Family Studies and Exploring Early Childhood.
